Event Description

Samay Chakra is a curated Hindustani Music Festival. This festival encapsulates the relationship that Hindustani music and varied ragas have with time. We present three concerts as part of the event, details of which you can find below:

Concert 1: Vocal recital by Chaitanya Bhat

About the artists:

Chaitanya Bhat:

Chaitanya was initiated into training in Hindustani classical vocal by his parents at a very young age. At the age of eleven, his passion for the art led him to Pt. Parameshwar Hegde, the foremost disciple of Padmabhushan Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru. In nearly three decades of taleem under Pt. Hegde, besides imbibing the nuances of Kirana, Gwalior and Patiala traditions, Chaitanya has managed to bring a sense of uniqueness to his gayaki, focused on purity of raagdari, aesthetics and emotional richness. 

Chaitanya has regularly performed for music organizations in his hometown, Bangalore and other cities in India. Besides solo concerts, he has performed with other artistes in Jugalbandi concerts and provided vocal support for classical dance recitals. While in Europe, he has also collaborated with local musicians, experimenting with fusion of Hindustani classical and baroque and regional folk music. Chaitanya is a B-high graded artist of Akashvani AIR. He also has two classical albums to his credit. 

Chaitanya holds an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, US and works in the field of acoustics and noise control engineering. He is presently working as Senior Engineering Manager with Garrett Motion (formerly Honeywell Transportation Systems) in Bangalore.

Neetha Ajey:

Smt. Neetha Ajey Beleyur began her musical journey under the able guidance of  Vidushi Vasudha Sharma, sagar,  developing her skills in Hindustani vocal music.  Later  she flourished under the mentorship of  Dr. Ravindra G. Katoti, from whom she continues to learn.

Her talent has been recognized by Akashavani, where she holds a prestigious B high grade, showcasing her abilities to a wider audience.

She has had the honor of accompanying celebrated musicians such as Pt. Vinayak Torvi, Pt. Parmeshwar Hegde, Vid. Sangeetha Katti , Vid. Poornima Bhat, and Vid. Bharati Pratap, enriching her experience and enhancing her musicality through these collaborations.

Sumith Naik:

Sumith Naik, is a talented young tabla artist from Kerala and now settled in Bangalore. Pandit Naveen Pai and Dr Udayraj Karpur have been his Gurus in Kochi and Bangalore respectively.

He has accompanied many renowned Hindustani and Carnatic Classical musicians including Padmashri Pt. Venkatesh Kumar, Pt. Arun Kashalkar, Vidushi Shruti Sadolikar, Pt. Nityanand Haldipur, Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Pt. Jayateerth Mevundi, Pt. Sudhakar Deole, Vid. Lalit J Rao, Dr. Ravindra Katoti, Pt. Parameshwar Hegde, Vid M. Chandrashekaran, Vid. Patri Satish Kumar, Pt. Somnath Mardur, Pt. Upendra Bhat, Dr. Jyothi Kale, Vidwan O.S.Arun, Vid. Shankaran Namboodiri, Vidushi. Sangeeta Katti Kulkarni, Vid. Shriram Parasuram and several others across the country.

Concert 2: Sitar recital by Arjun Anand

Arjun Anand:

Arjun's musical journey began with Carnatic vocal music at the age of 11 in 2012 under the guidance of late Smt. Saraswati, and he also learned Carnatic style harmonium from Shri Vasanth Kumar simultaneously.

During his two-year stint in Gururugram from mid 2012 to mid 2014 he learned Hindustani vocal music from Sri Ram Sharma and was introduced to sitar in school during the same period by the late Sri Roshan Ali Niazi. 

After completing 2 years in Gurugram Arjun returned to Bangalore and continued his sitar lessons with Shri Vijay Gonahalu from mid 2014 with whom he has been learning till now. Additionally, he had the opportunity to learn a few Raags from Sri Nityanand Haldipur, a renowned exponent of the Maihar Gharana. Arjun also occasionally takes lessons in Carnatic music from Vid. HK Venkatraman, further enriching his musical knowledge.

Vighnesh Kamath

A liking for percussion and rhythm since childhood led Vighnesh to initially train under Shri T. Haridas Pai ji, Brahmavar and later under Shri Bhimashankar Bidanur ji, Mysuru. A Polymer Science Engineer by Qualification, Vighnesh followed his passion for tabla, taking it as a full time profession. Since 2011 he has been receiving Taleem from the illustrious Tabla Maestro, Dr. Aneesh Pradhan, Mumbai. He also holds a MA in Tabla from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune. 

It has been a blessing for him to have accompanied veteran musicians of Hindustani Classical Music such as Pt. Tulsidas Borkar, Pt. Prabhakar Dharmadhikari, Pt. Murli Manohar Shukla, Pt. Venkatesh Kumar, Archana Kanhere, Shubha Mudgal, Upendra Bhat, Devaki Pandit, Shaunak Abhisheki, Sudhir Nayak, Ustad Rafique Khan amongst many others. Been a part of a cross cultural rhythm ensemble of 70+ drummers and percussionists from various genres titled "Dhamaal", curated and Directed by Dr. Aneesh Pradhan. Also been a part of the "Singing into the future" concept curated and Directed by Smt. Shubha Mudgal ji which featured promising young singers at the Jackfruit Festival in Bengaluru. 

He's the founder and Director of Kalādhārā Music and Arts Academy at Koteshwar which aims at spreading Arts education of various streams to the forthcoming generations. He is also a B-High graded Tabla Artist of All India Radio.

Concert 3: Vocal recital by Sameer Kulkarni

Sameer V. Kulkarni

Sameer V. Kulkarni is a young and dedicated Hindustani classical vocalist who has been training in the Kirana and Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana traditions of Khayal music for over two decades under Pt. Dr. Nagrajrao Havaldar and Shri Omkarnath Havaldar. Their mentorship has shaped his artistry, grounding him in tradition while nurturing individuality.

His journey began early—at just eleven, he cleared the All India Radio audition and performed in the Gilivindu program. Today, he is a “B-High” graded AIR artist. Sameer has consistently won accolades from institutions such as Kirana Music Academy and Hombaale Pratibha Ranga, and received the Republic Day Award from Sudarshan Vidya Mandir. He also won first prizes at ICEC’s Indo-China competition (2013) and Swarashri by Pt. Praveen Godkhindi’s Sanjog (2018).

A recipient of the National Scholarship for Young Artistes from the Ministry of Culture, Sameer has performed at prestigious festivals and venues, continuing his journey with devotion and creativity.

Madhusoodan Bhat

Madhusoodan Bhat started learning music (vocal and harmonium) from Pt. M.P.Hegde Padigere at Sirsi, Karnataka. He went on to train in the harmonium intensively under Pt.Dr.Ravindra Katoti, a Doordarshan ‘A’  graded Hindustani style harmonium artist. He groomed Madhusoodan's dedication in art.  Madhusoodan is an Akashvani B high graded artist.  

He has accompanied famous vocalists like Pt. M. Venkatesh kumar, Pt.Ganapathi Bhat Hasanagi, Pt. Vinayak Torvi, Pt. Parameshwar Hegde, Pt. Ramesh Narayan, Vidhushi  P U Sarkel(Rajkot),Vidhushi Vidya Rao Delhi,  Vidhushi Adithi Upadhyay, Vidhushi Lalit J Rao,  Pt. Ravindra Yavagal and shri Yashavanth Vaishnav for lehera , and many more.
