Event Description

Sangam is a sincere effort to present Carnatic and Hindustani classical traditions in an alternating format. Each piece will flow between the two styles, creating a harmonious fusion of these rich musical traditions.

This initiative seeks to celebrate the diversity of Indian classical music, providing a space where both forms can complement and inspire one another.

Deepak Sounderarajan
Vocals
Deepak Sounderarajan began his Carnatic music training under Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr. S. Ramanathan and later pursued advanced lessons with Smt. Pazhani Vijayalakshmi. While studying at BITS Pilani, he also trained in Hindustani classical music under Pandit Ravindra Prabhakar Roy and later continued learning with Smt. Swagata Chakraborty in New Jersey. He has performed in numerous Chennai Music Season concerts and was recognized as a star NRI performer by Tamil Nadu Doordarshan’s Podhigai TV. Beyond classical music, Deepak enjoys singing bhajans and semi-classical songs. Passionate about nurturing the next generation of musicians, he periodically teaches and performs at the Hindu Temple in Staten Island, New York, and Shirdi Sai Mandir in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey.

Professionally, Deepak has a diverse career in the pharmaceutical industry, spanning roles in clinical trial operations, sales, business intelligence, field force effectiveness, and field insights. In addition to his work in pharma, he practices part-time as a Nurse Practitioner and is a part-time doctoral student pursuing his Doctorate in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.


Gaurav Gadiyar
Harmonium
Gaurav started his musical journey at the age of 6 by learning from Mangalamba Hegde, and subsequently became a student of Pandit Venkatesh Alkod – from whom he has been learning for the past 12 years.

Gaurav has performed at prestigious venues like IIT Madras, Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava, Gadag Punyashrama and has accompanied acclaimed artists like Pt. Jayateerth Mevundi, Pandit Uttam Chiguri, Pt. Upendra Bhat, Sri Ananth Bhagwat, Sri Shankar Shanbhogue and his guru Pt. Venkatesh Alkod at various programs.


Mayuram J Shankar
Mridangam
A disciple of Kumbakonam M. Rajappa Iyer, an eminent tutor in Chennai, Mayuram J. Shankar hails from a family of musicians. He had his debut in 1981 presided over by violin maestro, Prof. T. N. Krishnan. Since then he has been accompanying both Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam performances. He is an A graded artiste at All India Radio. He has given several lecture demonstrations on Mridangam both in India and abroad. He has participated in the Festival of India in Russia and France and recently toured South Africa for dance recitals organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations. He has accompanied many Bharatanatyam artistes like Dr. Padma Subramanyam, Ms. Lakshmi Viswanathan, and Padmashri. Smt Chitra Visweswaran.


Vishwanath Nakod

Vishwanath Nakod learnt the art of percussion under the guidance of his elder brother Pt. Raghunath Nakod and took vocal training from his father Pt. Arjunsa Nakod and Light Music training from Pt.Vasanth Kanakapur a leading Composer and Harmonium player of Dharwad. He has performed alongside renowned artists such as Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Begum Parveen Sultana, Dr. Prabha Athre, Grammy Awardee Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, and other legendary musicians. Vishwanath Nakod is a ‘Top’ grade Tabla artist from AIR / Doordarshan. Also, he has performed extensively across the USA, Africa, Spain, France, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Gulf countries.
