When Forgotten Voices Rise: Sangamam Presents ‘Voices of Change’ in Bengaluru
Get ready for a powerful and evocative evening of dance-theatre and storytelling as Sangamam presents Voices of Change, a compelling cultural production by Sangamam, an initiative of the Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiatives (SFPI). Rooted in India’s rich artistic and social history, this performance brings together movement, music, theatre, and poetry to spotlight voices that have long lived on the margins. This act will be part of InvokED 5.0 - A global dialogue on education leadership, orchestrated by Shikshalokam (a SFPI Initiative) where diverse voices shape the dialogue to accelerate India’s public education transformation.
Drawing inspiration from the 13th-century Warkari movement of Maharashtra, Voices of Change traces the lives of Bhakti poets Kanhopatra, a sex worker, and Janabai, a Dalit woman, whose songs challenged rigid barriers of caste, class, and gender. Through Bharatanatyam, expressive movement, music, and narrative, the production explores how silenced voices travel across time, become collective memory, and quietly reshape ideas of justice and equality.
