After successful shows and critical acclaim in its last run, Sanket's 'Janashatru' returns to the Ranga Shankara stage!
A hard-hitting play, 'Janashatru' talks of a democratic government where the majority always denies liberty to individuals, refusing to acknowledge their right to live and thereby destroying their self-determination. What happens to such individuals in a majoritarian atmosphere? Freedom of expression is erased and voices are silenced. It is at this point that a voice must be raised, however little the voice.
Written and directed by renowned Kannada playwright, director, and former Artistic Director of Ranga Shankara, S Surendranath, and based on Henrik Ibsen's 'An Enemy of the People', 'Janashatru' is a result of Surendranath being awarded the coveted Ibsen Scholarship in 2019, an international fund for theatre performances celebrating the works of the great Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, for his project "Culturing Voices through Act IV of An Enemy of the People".
