Event Description

A conversation with the sculptor Dimpy Menon reflecting on her artistic journey and the evolution of her practice. In dialogue with Reema Moudgil, she will speak about the ideas, influences and experiences that have informed her work, her sustained engagement with the human figure, sculpture and material. The conversation offers insights into the questions that have shaped her practice, and the ways it has developed over the course of her career.

Dimpy Menon
Speaker

Dimpy Menon is an acclaimed Indian sculptor whose practice explores movement, balance and the expressive possibilities of the human form. She was the first Indian sculptor to receive the Lorenzo il Magnifico Bronze Award at the Florence Biennale. Her dynamic sculptures have been exhibited and installed across India and internationally, including at The Oberoi, Mumbai, and in Frisco, Texas. Her work has been auctioned at Sotheby’s, UK, and featured by publications including Open and World Sculpture. An alumna of the School of Art, Chennai, Menon has participated in international exhibitions and was an invited speaker at TEDx. Her sculptures are noted for their sensitivity, physicality and sense of movement.

Reema Moudgil

Reema Moudgil is a published author, translator, editor, art critic and artist. From 1994 to 2015, she has written for diverse publications ranging from The Economic Times, The New Indian Express, Deccan Herald, Better Interiors, Surface Asia, Mint, The Tribune and Gulf News. She has written on social, cultural and gender issues, cinema, art, music, architecture and theatre. Her first novel, Perfect Eight was published in 2010 and got an award from the Public Relations Council Of India in association with the Bangalore University. It was also prescribed at PG level, Post-Colonial studies at Jyoti Nivas College. She edited the best selling Chicken Soup for the Indian Woman’s Soul and translated Dominican poet Josefina Baez’s book Comrade Bliss Ain’t Playing in Hindi. She has also written catalogue texts for artists like Dimpy Menon, CF John, Babu Eshwar Prasad, TM Azis, Milind Nayak and photographers Shibu Arakkal, Rafique Sayed etc and has interviewed leading artists including the late MF Husain, Anjoli Ela Menon, the late Yusuf Arakkal, SG Vasudev, Jatin Das, Paresh Hazra to name a few.
