Shibori is an age-old Japanese resist dyeing technique that beautifully merges artistry with craftsmanship. It offers a creative way to express oneself through the manipulation of fabric, resulting in truly one-of-a-kind pieces. This practice shows how timeless traditions continue to hold relevance in today’s world, inviting us to pause, slow down, and discover the beauty and magic in something new.

An understanding of the history and origins of Shibori and its relevance today. How to make 4 different traditional shibori techniques
Materials and tools required
Where to get dyes and supplies in your city.
The takeaway -
Each participant will leave with enough knowledge about Shibori and the dyeing process, to make beautiful pieces of art in the comfort of their own home. They will also get to take home all their samples and handouts outlining what was learnt in the workshop.

About the facilitator
Sarah Thomas is a Bangalore based Textile Designer who specializes in the Art of Shibori. She started her own company Umoya Designs in 2007, after having graduated from the Srishti school of Art, Design and Technology. She is also a Fiber and mixed media Artist,having exhibited her work in Kerala, Bangalore and Bombay.
