Event Description

Two plays with a common theme, a child's perception of their parents during their growing up years, narrated on the days of the respective parent's death anniversary. "Shradhdha," based on a short story by Srinivasa Vaidya, explores the relationship between the son and his disciplinarian and autocratic father.

"Stainless Steel PaathregaLu," based on Vasudhendra's story with the same name, explores the mother's obsession with stainless steel utensils, as seen through the eyes of her son. In 'Shradhdha,' which means devotion, the son remembers the persona of his father during his growing years. In flashback, anecdotes come to life, and we see how the father handles his family, especially his son. The usual observations of how he was partial to his daughter, being a fierce patriot and a follower of Lokmanya Tilak, and how he managed his disillusionment with the aftermath of India attaining freedom How he raised his son, based on Tilak's methods, is described hilariously.

The intrinsic affection of the father comes to the fore towards the end of the play as the son realizes how unfair his perceptions and judgments of his father have been. "Stainless Steel PaathregaLu depicts a mother's obsession with stainless steel utensils, as seen through the eyes of her son. A young wife, who has been brought up in a bigger town, enters her husband's home and finds to her dismay that there are no stainless steel utensils. She vows to build up her collection of shiny utensils and starts buying them with the money she manages to save, or sometimes even buy on credit. Her obsession with the shiny metal utensils leads to hilarious situations, sometimes funny and sometimes embarrassing. As the story reaches its climax, the son reveals the fate of his mother's prized collection.
