Event Description

We will explore songwriting through performances of original compositions by Imon; the songs show a marked fascination for time and change. The author/composer shall also talk about his attempts at musically capturing fleeting moments of nostalgia and memory after each performance, anticipating a fruitful interaction about how we write/sing about situations in our lives. About the Artist Prabahan Shakya, who goes by the stage name ‘Imon’; is a Delhi-based songwriter and vocalist hailing from Guwahati, Assam. He has been performing his compositions in venues across Delhi and his home city for the last 7 years, a few notable spaces being the Piano Man Jazz Club, Depot 48, Matchbox Cafe, AntiSocial, and Akshara Theatre. In 2018, he performed in a session by House Concerts Delhi organized in Safdarjung alongside the Mumbai-based band 'My Kind of Blue'. In 2020, his cover of Yesterday was selected for a Vocal Improvisation Masterclass by Annette Philip, founder/artistic director of the Berklee Indian Ensemble. Imon resumed performing last year in Delhi after a brief hiatus due to his postgraduate studies. He was invited to speak at a TEDx event in May 2022 called "Reeti Rivaaz Renaissance” which featured a wide range of accomplished performers from different artistic habitats. On January 21, 2023, he won Songweavers 2023, the annual singer-songwriter competition organized by the Global Music Institute in Delhi, with his original composition 'Fools' Parade’. Imon’s compositions incline towards minimalist, ambient, indie-folk sounds. He writes in English, even though he has experimented with bilingual songs in his mother-tongue Assamese. Prabahan is currently 25 and is working actively as a performer and music producer.
