Event Description

What

Solidarity is a sense of unity. Simply put, it is showing up even if an issue doesn’t directly impact you. Solidarity Tuesday is about highlighting civic or social issues that need attention and could use our support.

Why

The Humming Tree has always had a commitment to community. Our work is to support independent artists and communities who are trying to create positive change in this world. As a venue, our intention is to give voice, platform, and resources to those who can make an impact in their communities.

How

Once a month, THT will host artists and social changemakers to share their journeys. All the proceeds from the food, beverage, and ticket sales will go to the community based organisation. Our commitment is to report back to our larger THT community so you know how the resources have been used.

When

One Tuesday a month

Who

This event is open to all. We encourage everyone to join us once a month to support organisations doing important work in our world.

About Adavi Arts Collective:

ADAVI is an anticaste art collective dedicated to the proliferation and promotion of folk arts. Our mission is to create a meaningful intersection between traditional folk practices and contemporary artistic expressions. At the heart of our collective is Parai, an ancient percussion instrument that embodies the spirit of celebration and community. Initiated by Naren, a seasoned folk artist and percussionist with a rich background in theater, ADAVI brings together artists who share a passion for celebrating life through art.

Vision:

Our vision is to build a society free from discrimination, where equality transcends caste, gender, color, religion, race, class and creed. Our collective is dedicated to fostering an inclusive world where every individual is valued, respected and empowered.

Program:

Taste of Self: An Encounter with Community Theatre

Date: 17 February 2026

Venue: Humming Tree

Artist resources for the evening: Deepak Srinivasan & Sadhana Mahila Sangha

Deepak Srinivasan is a theatre and media practitioner and design educator. His work focuses on storytelling and performance as methods to probe public life, specifically engaging with urban working-class groups, children, and special needs communities. He has been engaging with Sadhana Mahila Sangha over a 10 year period, to introduce them to theatre, media and art-based tools for expression and development.

Sadhana Mahila Sangha is a working-class women's collective that utilizes theatre, media, and visual forms for community outreach and women’s rights. They focus on building collective strength through the reclamation of their own narratives.

Part 1: Movement & Arts Workshop

Time: 6:00 PM – 6.45 PM

Location: Audience Floor

Facilitated by Deepak Srinivasan, this session is a short group exploration into somatic movement and creative expression. With over 18 years of experience in design education and media practice, Deepak specializes in crafting inclusive, trans-disciplinary processes for non-actors. This workshop invites participants—from students and young adults to community members—to engage with the arts as a tool for personal and socio-cultural inquiry.

Part 2: Excerpts from the community theatre piece, Hasivu-Kanasu (Hunger-Dreams)

Time: 7:00 PM – 7:40 PM

Location: On-Stage

Sadhana Mahila Sangha, a prominent Bengaluru-based collective of working-class women, presents excerpts from their original theatre production, Hasivu-Kanasu. Developed by adapting oral histories of the city's working-class communities, the performance explores the raw intersections of labour, survival, and aspiration. While the full production is a 90-minute Kannada language piece, curated excerpts will offer you a window into the collective’s lived experiences and their journey of self-expression.
