About Sozkhwani    Join us for Sozkhwani by Yusra Naqvi, a poetic recital lamenting the martyrs of Karbala. Soz Khwani is an art form rooted in the tales of Imam Hussain's adversities in Karbala, expressed through poignant verses and melodies. Yusra's journey began in Mustafabad's majlis gatherings, nurtured by her elders and refined over time. Her father's approach of linking a salaam to a recognizable raag was pivotal in her development. Yusra has honed her craft through years of Muharram performances, embodying nuanced emotions and narratives despite her young age.     

About the Artist   

Yusra Naqvi is a vocalist and instrumentalist pursuing Alankaar (Masters) in Hindustani classical music from Gandharva under Khushal Sharma and Pt. Madhup Mudgal. Hailing from Kanpur, she learned classical music from Dr. Rupam Bajpai for six years. Now based in Delhi and studying History at Jamia Millia Islamia, Yusra performs Sozkhwani, singing in Urdu, Khadi boli, Awadhi, and Persian. She sings khayal, dhamaar, thumri, dadra, ghazals, and bhajans. An enthusiast for Urdu resistance poetry, Yusra aims to create a moving and emotional experience for her listeners.
