Event Description

This Symposium on Autism Spectrum Disorders will bring together a range of perspectives on supporting the autism community. Over three days, speakers will share insights from personal experiences, clinical expertise, and pioneering approaches – covering topics from early intervention to inclusion and independence. Attendees can expect to gain deeper understanding of the complexities of autism and practical strategies for empowering individuals on the spectrum. Through engaging sessions and discussions, this multidisciplinary event aims to illuminate the autism experience and drive meaningful progress in enhancing support and expanding possibilities.

Day 1, 17 Nov: Lived experiences of Autism – Personal, Parental and Social

Day 2, 18 Nov: Autism Spectrum Disorders as a medical condition – Diagnosis and management
Speakers: Shoba Srinath, Chitra Shankar, Vijaya Raman

Day 3, 19 Nov: Multidimensional Interventions and Support for Children with ASD during early childhood and schooling

Pranav Sai
B. Tech, Computer Science and Engineering (IoT)

Pranav will speak about what it meant to be diagnosed with Autism and to have a sister who is also diagnosed with Autism. He is an avid learner and a passionate engineer who has completed his B.Tech with distinction. His pastimes are drawing, reading books, painting and writing poetry. Being curious in nature, he loves to explore and try out new things, often tinkering with electronics and gadgets. His sister Latika Kannan has a passion for music and dance and is involved in many forms of arts and crafts like making jewellery and greeting cards.. She has exceptional calendrical memory and can name the day of any particular date. She is currently mastering multimedia.
Kajal Roy
Director, Samaavesah Charitable Trust

Kajal Roy, Director, Samaavesah Charitable Trust will speak about her journey as the mother of Aditya Roy, diagnosed with Autism a couple of decades ago and her transition from IT professional to her current engagement with providing intensive early intervention in the Com DEALL model to young children with a diagnosis of ASD; at the Samaavesah Centre that she set up a few years ago.
G Vijaya Raghavan
Founder & Honorary Director, CADRRE The Autism Centre, Trivandrum

G Vijaya Raghavan, is the founder and honorary director of CADRRE The Autism Centre, Trivandrum, which has been offering services for individuals with Autism since 2017, including a full-day school program for children with Autism in the age group of 2.5-18 years, a skills building and employability training program for young adults with Autism, and a free Autism assessment clinic. Prior to founding CADRRE he was the founder & former CEO of India’s first technology park (Technopark, Trivandrum) and was the former President of International Association of Science Parks (Asia Pacific). He has  played an active part in many initiatives for the differently abled undertaken by the Kerala State.
Shoba Srinath
Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist

Shoba Srinath is Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.  She retired as senior professor and former head of Dept of Child Psychiatry and Dean at NIMHANS, Bengaluru will speak about Autism Spectrum and the co-occurring conditions
Chitra Shankar
Consultant Developmental Pediatrician, Manipal Hospital

Chitra Shankar, Consultant Developmental Pediatrician at Manipal hospital, Old Airport Road, Bangalore; has had a keen interest in ASD. As a developmental pediatrician she has often been the first point of contact for many families with a child who eventually received a diagnosis of ASD. Dr Chitra will speak about the importance of first 1000 days in the child’s development.
Vijaya Raman
Professor of Clinical Psychology, St. John's Medical College Hospital

Vijaya Raman is Professor of Clinical Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, St. John’s Medical College Hospital, Bangalore and Head, CareAdd (Center for Advanced Research and Excellence in Autism and other Developmental Disorders). She will speak on Counseling of Parents: Why, What, When and How?
Shilpa Sankhla
Occupational Therapist

Shilpa Sankhla is an Occupational Therapist who has been involved in comprehensive early intervention for children with ASD at the Com DEALL Trust, over the last two decades. She is currently the Training Coordinator and is responsible for overseeing the  many training programs on ASD, run by the Trust,  for a variety of stake holders – both professional and parents. She will speak on the varied sensory – motor challenges that individuals with ASD, face.
Bindiya Shajith
Founder Director, Allinclusive Foundation

Bindiya Shajith is a Child and Adolescent school psychologist and Founder Director of the Allinclusive Foundation. She has been actively involved in including children with autism in mainstream classrooms and is an active champion of their overall well being.
Prathibha Karanth
Speech Language Pathologist & Founder, Com DEALL

Prathibha Karanth, is a Speech Language Pathologist who specialised in the neurogenic communication disorders. Having taken voluntary retirement from her position as Professor & Head of the Department of Speech Language Pathology at the All India Institute of Speech & Hearing, Mysore she set up the Com DEALL Trust in Bengaluru in 2000, to run comprehensive multidisciplinary early intervention programs for children with ASD, across the nation.
