About the Sub-Festival   

Gala-Gala-Gaddala (#3G) is a cultural carnival celebrating Karnataka's rich heritage through music, dance, theatre, and more! Curated by Lekha Naidu for BLR Hubba, this festival embodies joy, tradition, and Karnataka's Spirit.        

Sri Kumara Sambhava is a traditional puppet performance in the Mudrika style, directed by Dr. Dattatreya Aralikatte (known as Datta), a renowned master puppeteer from Karnataka. This temple-based art form uniquely presents the mythological tale of Lord Kumara's birth and his battle with the demon Tarakasura.   

The Mudrika style, which gets its name from "Mudra" (meaning the impression of God, culture, and tradition), is distinctive for its integration of classical elements. It incorporates principles from the Natya Shastra, particularly emphasizing Abhinaya (the art of expression) through both facial (Vaachikabhinaya) and body movements (Aangikabhinaya). The performances feature puppets (Putthali) controlled by intricate string work and are accompanied by Karnatic classical music.    Dr. Datta, who founded "Putthali Kalaranga," has received numerous accolades including the National Best Teacher Award (2004) and the title of "Guru" from the Government of India. His work has been crucial in preserving this classical art form through the "Guru Shishya Parampara" system, where the tradition is passed down to students.    The performance revolves around the Sutradhara (narrator-conductor), who introduces characters and performs traditional rituals, making it not just entertainment but a comprehensive cultural experience rooted in Indian theatrical traditions.
