Event Description

A visionary performance and immersive installation, SUPERPOSITION delves into the evolving landscape of human consciousness, exploring the potential emergence of a “superconsciousness” that transcends current limitations. At the heart of this project is an exploration of the intersections of quantum physics, artificial intelligence, human cognition, and artistic expression, positioning it as both a philosophical inquiry and a work of experiential art.

The performance, by Robert B. Lisek and Bangalore-based dancer Dayita Nereyeth, takes place in a space where laser light, video projections, and dance become dynamic, responsive elements, continually shaped by quantum phenomena such as superposition, entanglement, interference, and decoherence. These quantum effects represent the natural flow and interconnectedness that mirror human thought processes, creating an environment in which reality itself appears to change and redefine itself. The immersive nature of the installation encourages participants to experience multiple states of being and perceive layers of reality beyond ordinary perception.

Robert B. Lisek is an artist, mathematician, and composer who explores the intersections of systems, networks, and processes—computational, biological, and social. His art delves into themes such as artificial intelligence, bioengineering, information theory, and quantum physics. Lisek is a pioneer in art based on machine learning and artificial intelligence, prompting critical reflection on AI’s implications for privacy, agency, trust, creativity, and culture. He is a composer of contemporary music, authoring numerous projects and scores at the intersection of spectral, stochastic, concrete music, and noise. Lisek is also a scientist conducting research in the foundations of science, particularly mathematics and computer science. His contributions include over 300 exhibitions and concerts, among them: “GOLEM” at ZKM Karlsruhe; “SIBYL” at IRCAM Center Pompidou and MAXXI Museum Rome; “APEIRON“ at Ars Electronica Linz; “QUANTUM ENIGMA” at Harvestworks Center New York and STEIM Amsterdam;  “DEMONS” at the Venice Biennale; “FLOAT” at the LMCCl, NYC.

Dayita Nereyeth is a dancer, Alexander Technique teacher, and editor. She is interested in abstract expressions of a unified self, and in exploring how the mundane can manifest in movement and performance.

This project is the outcome of Robert Lisek's bangaloREsidency@Science Gallery Bengaluru, in collaboration with Studio Quantum, Quantum Delta and V2 and Raman Research Institute.
