"Taala Tamate" is a performance centered around the Tamate (Parai), one of India's oldest and often marginalized instruments. By breaking traditional performance hierarchies, this piece aims to give voice to the instrument’s rich cultural history and the communities connected to it. It celebrates its unique role and significance, blending stories of social history with vibrant expressions of joy, color, and movement. Even themes of death and funerals—symbolic within the performance—are portrayed as celebrations of life. With "fun as mandatory," the work invites audiences to rediscover the Tamate’s beauty, power, and community spirit.
