Have you ever wondered, on the day that India became free, what must have it felt like to become an independent country from a colonized one in a matter of a few hours? As part of our explorations into what freedom means as India entered its 76th year of Independence this month, this Sunday RS Connect in collaboration with Heritage Beku will present a series of short films ‘Tales From the Night of Freedom’, where senior citizens who witnessed the day of Independence speak about the experience of the midnight of 15 August, 1947. Maya Chandra, filmmaker and the founder-director of Maya Films who will be conducting the session, will also share Rabindranath Tagore’s inspiration to write the National Anthem, the original composition and the Mysore Royal connect to all. This is the third of many sessions in collaboration with Heritage Beku, a citizen initiative to maintain and preserve Bengaluru's fading heritage. Their focus is to have an agile, dynamic, evolving framework to reflect citizen voices and channel it to positively impact preservation of the city's heritage - be it built, natural or cultural. Maya Chandra is the founder-director of MAYA – a 25+ year enterprise specializing in the production of corporate films, documentaries, advertisements, music videos, public service films, etc. She has created over 400+ films and multimedia presentations till date, and has established new paths in government and healthcare communications. Come, join us for a lovely evening of stories around freedom, how people viewed their freedom on the night of 15 August and more!
