Tanjore painting is an traditional art of Tamil Nadu, it is flourished from a town Thanjavur anglicized as Tanjore in Tamil Nadu known for its unique history in culture of south India.In 2007-2008, the Government of India recognized Tanjore Painting as a Geographical Indication. The skilled artisans use this painting style to paint the portraits of Hindu gods and goddesses in different postures. Tanjore paintings are characterized by rich, flat and vivid colors, simple iconic composition, glittering gold foils overlaid on delicate gesso work and inlay of precious and semi-precious stones which extensively adds to its beauty and grandeur.
