Event Description

Nourishment from their hands, nourishment from their minds.

Knowledge of wild edibles has long been carried by women elders. Urbanisation is swallowing both the foraging grounds and the people who know them. Suresh Kumar G has spent years researching and documenting these practices for future generations. His project ‘Sarjapura Curries’ archives lost recipes, revives forgotten greens, and records the seasonal knowledge embedded in local communities before it vanishes entirely.

This session is part presentation, part demonstration, part meal. A foraged stew will be cooked and shared.

This event is a part of the Environment Day programming at BIC.

Suresh Kumar G is a Bangalore-based visual and performance artist, arts facilitator, and mentor. He holds an MFA in Sculpture from Delhi College of Art (2000) and a BFA in Sculpture from the College of Fine Arts, Chitrakala Parishat, Bengaluru. His practice spans large-scale sculptural installations and site-specific works addressing social and environmental issues, with an interdisciplinary approach that operates outside the commercial gallery module.

A founding member of BAR 1, the oldest artist residency programme in Bangalore, he has initiated several collective art projects including Samuha (2009), a time-bound art and community initiative, and 080:30 (2012), a year-long public art project for artists under thirty. He currently leads Sarjapura Curries, a community gardening project archiving and reviving lost knowledge of foraging, wild vegetables, and local recipes through natural farming methods. He teaches courses on foraging and local cooking at various institutions and conducts regular workshops at farms.
