Join us for a calligraphy event where you’ll discover the art of writing and visual storytelling that combines learning, creativity, and inspiration, offering a hands-on journey into the world of calligraphy.
The event will start with a presentation by the artist on calligraphy as an expressive art form, followed by a showcase of Parameshwar Raju’s Ramayanam slides, revealing his narrative calligraphic artistry.
This will be followed by a hands-on workshop to learn dip nibs and pens basics, briefly touch upon rhythm and control, and create personalized patterns and images. Showcase your work for a chance to win a prize!
The event wraps up with a look into the art in the book The Wonderful Calligraphy of Poosapati Parameshwar Raju and include an interactive discussion with the author and artist.

Artist
We celebrate the life and work of Poosapati Sri Parameshwar Raju, born in 1961 in Vandrum to Smt. Satyavati and Dr. Lt. Col. Poosapati Appala Raju of the Poosapati family from Vizianagaram.
Starting with Devanagari script, his calligraphy evolved into depictions of Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha, Kartikeya, Sthala Puranas, and epic narratives. His work integrates philosophy, using calligraphic strokes to symbolize life’s rhythm and red ink with white space to represent Shiva and Shakti.
His Dasavatara and Ramayanam in Calligraphy have gained global recognition for visually narrating epics. He has received State Awards from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Art and Design at Apeejay Stya University and is establishing CREA, a center for traditional arts in Jami, Vizianagaram.
Koeli Mukherjee Ghose
Author
Koeli Mukherjee Ghose is an artist, art historian, and curator. Born in Kolkata in 1967, she is a gold medalist in History of Art and is pursuing a PhD in Art and Design. Her research on Parameshwar Raju’s pictorial calligraphy led to the book The Wonderful Calligraphy of Poosapati Parameshwar Raju.
She studied at Gokhale Memorial Girls’ High School, earned a BFA in Painting from Kala Bhavan, Visva-Bharati, and completed a Master’s in Visual Arts at Rabindra Bharati University, specializing in History of Art and Printmaking. She trained in Kalamkari, Dokra, and Kufic calligraphy.
Koeli is the Honorary Director of CREA Centre for International Arts & Crafts. She has curated exhibitions for artists like Thota Vaikuntam and collaborated with Lalit Kala Akademi on the Triennale Exhibition and Saarc Artists Camp. She has worked with Chitramayee State Art Gallery and Kalahita Art Foundation.
Her work includes bamboo stylus drawings, oil and acrylic paintings, and performance art, exhibited in India and internationally. She has contributed articles on Indian modern art to publications like DAG compilations and curated online exhibitions and webinars.
