Event Description

To enter the soundscape of the Agra gharana is to encounter music that is both majestic and deeply human.

This Hindustani classical vocal concert brings alive a style known for its power, dignity, and emotional depth. Drawing from a tradition shaped by both dhrupad discipline and khayal imagination, the performance highlights the gharana’s signature elements: the contemplative nom-tom alap, robust voice production, expansive bada khayal architecture, and the intricate weave of bol-bant and bol-taans.

Through a thoughtfully curated selection of ragas and compositions, the evening offers listeners a glimpse into the gravitas and improvisational colour of the Agra style; honouring its great maestros while presenting the tradition with contemporary sensitivity and artistic clarity.
