The evolutionary and individual developmental sequences, created by the anthropologist and anatomist Professor Raymond Dart in the 1940’s, gives you a unique experience of linking with both our ancestral evolutionary heritage and also our individual growth progression from infant to adult. The Procedures give each participant a personal experience of deep-time evolution culminating in the amazing human ability to stand upright on two legs to traverse the planet. Each session will lead to a reawakening of our evolutionary ancestry through carefully designed sequences of gentle movement. The programme will demonstrate over four sessions both where we "came from" and how each of us individually arrived here. So it will be both a personal and a profound journey of self-discovery through movement. Overlooked or partially experienced functions can be reawakened and given new vitality. Coming from stillness into guided action you both learn and experience your full range of movement potential within the context of the principles of the Alexander Technique.
The week-long course is suitable for anyone interested in the somatic arts, movement artists (dancers or performance artists), Alexander Technique enthusiasts, medical and complementary health practitioners, and indeed for anyone interested in extending their self-awareness in movement. It will be both a therapeutic and educational workshop.
About the Teacher: Robin Simmons has been working with these practices since 1970. He is a qualified AT teacher and teacher-trainer. He has been running an online Dart Procedures class every Friday morning since the start of the pandemic. His book, The Evolution of Movement (Mouritz 2018) describes how the Dart Procedures are rooted in the Alexander Technique principles.
