A Curated exhibition of photographs from the project will also be on display.

What is home? Does a home need to be a physical space that one occupies? Can a place become a person and vice-versa? How does homelessness feel? What would its contours be? What does it mean to migrate, be displaced, and to desert? What are the ways in which we engage with loss? These questions form the core themes of this performance.

The House Blue is a blend of a pop-up photography exhibition and collaborative narrative theatre performance. The work is rooted in a series of images made by Mritunjay Kumar, a documentary photographer and filmmaker, of a government quarter, taken on the last day of its occupancy by his family. While the images themselves may seem like an attempt to capture the ephemeral aspect of leaving a house, the work is an enquiry of the questions that Mritunjay and perhaps countless other people have.

About the Stage Team

Mritunjay Kumar:

Mritunjay is a social documentary photographer, filmmaker, and storyteller. Over the past decade, he has focused on photographing and writing about issues concerning Indigenous Peoples, women farmers and entrepreneurs, and rural India.

Coming from a rural agricultural family, growing up in a steel township, and relocating frequently for education and work, Mritunjay finds the themes of migration and displacement recurring in his artistic practice—a reflection, perhaps, of his own unending search for 'home'.

His work has been exhibited, published, and recognised on various platforms. His project, The House Blue, is a collaborative exhibition-cum-narrative theatre piece.

Anish Victor:

Born in Changanacherry, Kerala, and raised in Kanpur and Bangalore, Anish's theatre journey began in 1991 as a stage-hand, eventually evolving into a lighting designer. By 1996, he co-founded rafiki, a theatre group that significantly shaped his career, collaborating with notable directors and performers. His work evolved to include solo performances like Koogu and large-scale projects such as Unreserved, a theatre-based exploration of identity. In recent years, he’s focused on developing theatre programs for individuals on the autism spectrum and continues to explore new creative works, including iha, Shuffled, and The House Blue.
