Our past is as mysterious and open to imagination as the skies above us.

Amid the stark landscapes of Pavagada, known to the British as Pawgur, a fleeting UFO encounter draws in two researchers and a local explorer. They retrace the path of a 19th century British surveyor, whose meticulous records of prehistoric sites lend weight to his testimony of witnessing strange lights at dusk in Pavagada.

The film blends documentary-style narration with fiction, in a cinematic experiment that re-frames the UFO phenomenon through contemporary eyes, situating it within a historical context where fact and imagination converge.

Sashi Sivramkrishna
Filmmaker
Sashi Sivramkrishna is an economist and documentary filmmaker based in Bengaluru. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University. He began making documentaries in the early 2000s, with his debut The Curse of Talakad (2005) sparking a lasting engagement with colonial history and the landscapes of southern India. While researching this film, he discovered Francis Buchanan’s journey of 1800-1801 in the Mythic Society archives, a thread he has retraced across multiple works, including A Looming Past (2010), an ethnographic film on coarse blanket weavers, The Indigo Factory (2024), and his recently completed docufiction, The Incidents at Pawgur, 1830. His films have screened at festivals including Film South Asia (Nepal) and the Royal Anthropological International Film Festival (UK).
