Event Description

What if music could quiet the world around you?

Step into an evening of calm, beauty, and tradition with Dhrupad; the oldest form of Indian classical vocal music still performed today.

Rooted in the Dagarvani style, this performance offers a deep, meditative experience. Rich vocal melodies meet the earthy rhythm of the Pakhawaj, creating an atmosphere of calm, clarity, and deep listening.

Each note is sung with grace. Each rhythm unfolds with purpose.

This evening of Dagarvani Dhrupad invites you to slow down for a night of pure, powerful listening.

Performers

Niloy Ahsan
Dhrupad Vocals
Niloy Ahsan is among the leading Dhrupad vocalists of his generation. He studied under the esteemed Gundecha Brothers and Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar, inheriting a lineage that traces back over 21 generations to the 15th-century master Swami Haridas.

Renowned for his refined alap, Niloy’s singing is marked by subtle tonal precision, calm authority, and intricate unfolding of ragas—an approach that brings forward elements often lost in other musical forms. His notable collaborations include performing with A.R. Rahman’s Firdaus Orchestra at the Dubai Expo 2021, recording with the Grammy-winning band Gorillaz, and a jazz fusion project with Vyacheslav Guyvoronsky in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Roman Das
Pakhawaj
Roman Das is a progressive Pakhawaj artist known for his dynamic and expressive approach to rhythm. Grounded in tradition yet open to innovation, Roman brings a contemporary edge to this ancient percussion instrument. A regular performer on Doordarshan and All India Radio, he is especially acclaimed for his sensitive and intelligent accompaniment in the Dhrupad tradition.
