About the book
Set against the backdrop of the #MeToo movement in India, The Sea Has the Answers by Shuma Raha is about a woman’s journey towards self-realisation after her husband has been outed as a sexual predator in the workplace. Hence, the book deals with a largely unseen, unheard and unspoken-about impact of the #MeToo phenomenon — one that is on the wife of the perpetrator. The novel also explores the interior life of the sexual offender and gives a glimpse into how male entitlement operates in a patriarchal society. Essentially a feminist novel, it is also a deeply political work and examines the themes of sexual violence, misogyny, and self-deception — all of which play out amidst some of the most disturbing social realities of our time.
