Event Description

Set in the 1960s, Pravin Godkhindi’s book, Prahar: The Singing Clock, tells the story of the power of ragas through the fictional story of vocalist Pandit Sharada Prasad Buwa and watch technician Zameer who invent a unique clock that plays ragas according to the time of day. Their journey, filled with love, rivalry, and unexpected twists, leads to a one-of-a-kind singing clock. Celebrating the fusion of music and time, this heartwarming story is one that resonates with simplicity and authenticity.

The event and discussion will also explore the concept of Prahar, the theory that different ragas correspond to different times of the day, in Hindustani Classical music and the healing powers in the ragas. The author will be in conversation with journalist SR Ramakrishna. Their conversation will be interspersed by short performances of the ragas on flute. An audience Q&A will follow.
