Event Description

Saras Co. presents The Spaven D&B Curation, a special curation and reinterpretation of timeless jungle classics by UK-based producer/composer and drummer Richard Spaven, with Chris 'Fatty' Hargreaves on bass, supported by Mumbai’s very own Drum ani Bass. Experience the finest live D&B from the UK through a unique sonic journey, exploring the roots of jungle and drum & bass while paying homage to the architects of sound system culture. Richard will be joined by Christopher Hargreaves (Fatty Bassman) on bass. Expect classics, improvisation, all while honoring the origins of Jungle/D&B. Stick around for an intimate talk/dialogue with Richard Spaven, delving into the significance of classic tunes and offering a deeper understanding of their cultural impact and enduring relevance, while dissecting the tunes that shaped a movement. With roots entrenched in the UK club and hip-hop scene, Spaven's genre-bending sound distinguishes him as one of the globe's most unique artists/drummers. His live performances and educational clinics serve as platforms for championing the drum and bass sound/culture with unparalleled fervor and expertise. His drumming is driven by machine-like accuracy with jazz-influenced improvisational sensibilities. Apart from his own projects as ‘Richard Spaven’, he has collaborated with the likes of UK rapper Loyle Carner, Alfa Mist, producer Flying Lotus, vocalist José James, Brainfeeder artist Jameszoo, and many others. The brainchild of bass player Nathan Thomas and drummer Dhir Mody, Drum ani Bass evolved out of improvised jungle/drum n bass jams in ‘1403’. Both inclined in the same direction, Nathan and Dhir have been experimenting with their sound and taking it live in different musical settings with room for innovation and improvisation. The idea is to emulate electronic music ideas into a live performance format. Within this format the band explores jungle, footwork, drum 'n' bass, dub. Chris Hargreaves aka ‘fattybassman’ lives in London and has grown up playing in the electronic / bass music world. Living with producers in his former Leeds years he moulded the two worlds of electronic music and bass through working with effects & pedals incorporating producing techniques to solidify his sound. Throughout his career he has worked a lot in the genres of Dubstep, D&B, HipHop, Grime, Reggae & Soul alongside many artists like The Prodigy, Dizzee Rascal, Submotion Orchestra, David Rodigan MBE, The Outlook Orchestra, Mala, Fabio & Grooverider, Freddie Mcgregor, Julian Marley, Pharoahe Monch, Congo Natty, Kelly Le Roc, Foreign Beggars, Jehst, illa J, Slum Village, General Levy, Protoje, Dawn Penn, Bitty Mclean, Mr Vegas, Horace Andy, Jorja Smith, Maverick Sabre, Jordan Rakei, Loyle Carner, Roots Manuva, P-Money, Flowdan, Mahalia, Kojay Radical & the Abstract Orchestra.
