The Threshold is a musical conversation between Pallavi and Bindhumalini where they look at gender by celebrating the stories of women across continents and generations.
Through the stories of Hypatia, Agnodice, Kharbaoucha, Fanny Mendelson and the songs of Lalla, Lingamma, Neelamma, Goggavva, Sule Sunkkavva, Nina Simon and Meera, Pallavi and Bindhu weave a journey of the woman accentuating their voices with the sounds of the harmonium, flute, kazoo, swarmandal, udukkai, bells,ghungroo, shakers, kartal, melodica, rainmaker and the Banjo.
About the Artists
Pallavi MD, a distinguished singer, composer, actor, and filmmaker, hails from a family of artists and holds a degree in Hindustani classical music from Benares University. Renowned for performing Kannada poetry (bhavageethe) over the past 28 years, she has earned accolades such as the META Best Actress award, State award for her song in Duniya, and the State Kempegowda award. She is also a recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for her contributions to Bhav Sangeet and has participated in numerous international and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Bindhumalini Narayanaswamy, a versatile singer and composer, continually explores musical realms beyond her classical roots. She shares the songs and poems of Indian mystic saints across various regions and has directed music for feature and documentary films in multiple languages. Bindhumalini has won the National Award and Filmfare Award for her singing in Nathicharami
