ABOUT THE URBAN SOALCE BOOK LOVERS' CLUB:
The Urban Solace Book Lovers' Club for started in 2010 as a result of a meet-up of writers whose stories were published in the book "Chicken Soup for the Indian Teachers Soul" inspired by the energy of this experience "The Urban Solace Book Lovers' Club was born. From there it has grown from strength to strength hosting its monthly meet on the second Sunday of every month. Over the years the club has hosted over 50 published authors to discuss their writings, and these writers were the best from Bangalore, India and around the world who have sought us out to experience this dynamic of our club. Today The Urban Solace Book Lovers' Club has a set of loyal supporters and a sterling reputation of being the longest running book club in the city in a cafe setting and is sought after by several writers from Bangalore and across the country to be featured in our experience.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Leslie Carvalho

Leslie Carvalho went to school and college in Bangalore and then studied filmmaking at The New York Film Academy.

He wrote produced and directed 'The Outhouse' and 'A Woman Too Many'. He was awarded the 'Aravindan Puruskaram' and 'The Gollapudi Srinivas National Award' for best debutant director for 'The Outhouse'

He has been on several National and international Film Juries.

He is also a gifted painter, writer and enjoys teaching German and tennis.

ABOUT THE BOOK: 'Smoke on the backwaters'

A single incident in the life of a twenty-year-old ignites a storm of gossip, fear and shame in a sleepy coastal town of Mangalore, South India, forcing her to flee overnight. Her unexpected journey across continents becomes a path to healing, allowing her to process the pain that once seemed insurmountable.

After seven years, she returns home, armed with an education and newfound maturity, only to discover that the town remains unchanged, stuck in its old ways.

She's determined to find meaning and purpose to her life causing ripples in the backwaters she left behind.
