ABOUT THE URBAN SOALCE BOOK CLUB: The Urban Solace Book Lovers' Club for started in 2010 as a result of a meet-up of writers whose stories were published in the book "Chicken Soup for the Indian Teachers Soul" inspired by the energy of this experience "The Urban Solace Book Lovers' Club was born. From there it has grown from strength to strength hosting its monthly meet on the second Sunday of every month. Over the years the club has hosted over 50 published authors to discuss their writings and these the best writers from Bangalore, India and around the world who have sought us out to experience this dynamic of our club. Today The Urban Solace Book Lovers' Club has a set of loyal supporters and a sterling reputation of being the longest book club in the city in a cafe setting and is sought after by several writers from Bangalore and across the country to be featured in our experience. ABOUT THE BOOK: Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde Shades of Grey (not to be confused with 50 shades of Grey) is a 2009 comic adventure novel written by the English writer Jasper Fforde. It has been described as George Orwell's 1984 written by PG Wodehouse. Five hundred years after the end of our own civilization in Something that Happened, the UK is now the nation of Chromatacia. Life is lived by The Rulebook and social class is determined by your perception of colour. The story covers 5 days in the life of Edward Russett, a young Red perceiver who travels to the Outer Fringes, falls in love with Jane G23, a lowly Grey who wants to kill him and discovers a terrible secret behind his ordered life. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jasper Fforde (born 1961) started his career as a focus puller in the movie industry. He worked on films such as The Mask of Zorro, GoldenEye, Entrapment, The Trial and Quills. He retired and published his first novel in 2001. Fforde's books abound in literary allusions, tightly scripted plots, wordplay and playfulness with the conventional, traditional genres. They usually contain elements of metafiction, parody, and fantasy. ABOUT THE CURATOR: Kunal Lal has 16 years of experience in engineering and telecommunications. He currently works for Synaptics Incorporated. He is an omnivorous reader enjoying history, psychology, science and all genres of fiction.
