About this side/ಈ ಕಡೆ
An exhibition curated along with folks from Jayanagar will delve into the historical and cultural narratives surrounding food practices in Agraharas, exploring how caste has shaped cuisine, preparation methods, ingredients, and rituals. Through multimedia displays, oral histories, and visual storytelling, the exhibition will highlight how caste-based hierarchies have influenced what is eaten, by whom, and how these practices have transformed or persisted over time. Together, the walk and exhibition offer a layered perspective on food, making visible the socio-cultural imprints on everyday culinary traditions in Jayanagar.
About The Artists
Sri Vamsi Matta, or simply Vamsi, is an interdisciplinary theatre artist based in Bangalore. His Dalit identity, personal experiences, and environment profoundly shape his artistic practice, informing the themes, questions, and mediums he explores. Vamsi’s work critically examines oppressive structures and narratives that impact his community using visual design, theatre and narrative and storytelling methodologies.
Sachin Sreenath is a Bangalore-based actor and theatre professional. He trained at Ninasam and Adishakti Theatre Research labs, and has been actively practicing the craft from the past 11 years. Besides theatre, he is under formal training in Yakshagana, Kalari and Carnatic vocal music. He has also expanded his theatre practice to television and cinema, predominantly in Kannada and English. His work is an exploration of bodies as a medium of story-telling through emotions and the juxtaposition of surrealistic stage-acting.
