In this talk, based on his recent book, A Sacred Journey, Professor BN Goswamy decodes a series of hitherto un-identified Pahari paintings from the Kedara Kalpa manuscript, a relatively unknown Shaivite text from Rajasthan. The paintings depict the journey of five pilgrims through uncharted territory to have a darshan of Shiva in Kailash. From snow-capped frontiers to golden stretches of land, the uncommon resolve in the minds of pilgrims to the feeling of triumph at the end of the expedition, traverse a range of geographical, emotional, and spiritual terrains in this illustrative lecture.
