Event Description

Mumbai-based Todywalla Auctions, one of India’s few licensed antique auction houses, will present a preview of its forthcoming sale at the Bangalore International Centre (BIC) from 13 to 15 February. The exhibition is a non-selling preview ahead of the auction in Mumbai.

The display will feature a selection of Indian art, including miniature paintings, stone and bronze sculptures, and examples of Indian silver, jewellery, and textiles, spanning a wide historical range. Highlights include Pahari paintings depicting scenes from the Ramayana (circa 1780) and a painting of Radha and Krishna attributed to Muhammad Faqirullah Khan, dating to the 1760s, comparable to a work held by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Sculptural works on view include a large Kushan-period sandstone lion from Mathura (2nd–3rd century AD) and an early bronze Vishnu from Himachal Pradesh (8th–9th century AD), alongside other significant bronzes from across the subcontinent.

As part of the preview programme, an illustrated lecture titled Art in South India: A Continuum in Space, Time & Thought by S. Murugan will be held on 14 February at 5.30 pm. Murugan is a self-taught scholar of classical South Indian art with a focus on bronzes and paintings from Karnataka.

The auction itself will take place in Mumbai at the Taj Mahal Palace, Colaba, on 16 March 2025.
