EVENT HAS ENDED
345, Cooke Town 560005
What is a translation and what does it give us? How do translators work - what do they lose and what do they gain? How do translators work when their hearts turn away from the texts they are translating? How should we judge a translation, and why read translations at all, especially translations of texts that disturb us - like the Ramayana, for example? Can a feminist really translate the Ramayana? Award-winning author and translator Arshia Sattar, having worked with the Valmiki Ramayana for over 30 years, addresses all these and more with the epic in sharp focus - its dominance in our culture, its values and ideals, and what relevance it might have for us in our contemporary lives. Date: 29 June Time: 5 PM Age Limit: 18+ Limited seating
