Event Description

This Saturday Ranga Shankara will host  'Ulat Ved Ki Baani' or 'The Wisdom of Upside - Down Vedas' by Prashant Parvataneni.

In collaboration with The Kabir Project, this session brings to you a reflection on 'Ulatbaansi' songs gathered from the oral traditions of India as portals to imagine radical new worlds against the drudgeries of convention.

Prashant Parvataneni is an independent writer and researcher based in Bengaluru. He works with the Kabir Project on an archive of Bhakti, Sufi, and Baul songs gathered from the oral traditions of India.

He was awarded the Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize in 2019. He is passionate about cinema and teaches courses on film and visual culture at Asian Institute of Design.

In the world of ‘Ulatbaansi’ by Kabir and other mystic poets, the limits of reason and possibility are challenged and hierarchies playfully dismantled. In this presentation, we will be reflecting on 'Ulatbaansi' songs gathered from the oral traditions of India as portals to imagine radical new worlds against the drudgeries of convention.

Come on over to what will be a very engaging session! See you this Saturday at the Ranga Shankara foyer.

About Ranga Shankara

Ranga Shankara is the definitive space for quality theatre in Bangalore.  Since it opened its doors in October 2004, Ranga Shankara has developed into one of the nerve centres of theatre in India, firmly believing in ‘a play a day’, resulting in over 7000 performances by local, national and international troupes in a range of languages in Ranga Shankara’s 18 years. One of the most affordable, accessible theatres in the country (making it a favourite among amateur theatre troupes), Ranga Shankara is also known for its many festivals such as the annual Theatre Festival, AHA! Festival of Theatre for Children and Equal, all contributing to the richness of cultural fabric of not just Bangalore, but India, too.
