ABOUT THE BOOK:

The Insider is an account of the political scenario of India during the time of the former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, who is the author of the book. The novel is based on a fictional state called Afrozabad, which is modelled on the actual state of Hyderabad.

The book discusses the state of events and the political scenario in India under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, delving into areas like her rise to power, second coming, assassination, followed by her son Rajiv Gandhi's entry into the world of politics. The Insider reveals to the reader the state of affairs in a political scenario, narrated by a man who has had first-hand experience of it all.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Pamulaparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao (28 June 1921 – 23 December 2004) was an Indian lawyer and politician who served as the 9th Prime Minister of India from 1991 to 1996. He is often referred to as the "Father of Indian Economic Reforms". His ascendancy to the prime minister ship was politically significant in that he was the second holder of this office from a non-Hindi-speaking region and the first from South India.

He was a versatile thinker with interests in a variety of subjects such as literature and computer software and programming. He spoke 17 languages.

ABOUT THE CURATOR:

Somaskanda was born and brought up in Bangalore. He started off as a finance professional and later moved into legal practice as a lawyer. As a regular at Urban Solace, he has been part of the Book Club for several years.
