Event Description

Gunduraju is a ninth-generation leather puppeteer from the Shillekyaata community, born in 1959 in Hoovinakaaval, Hassan, Karnataka. Trained by his parents, Ramayya and Hanumamma, he has practiced this traditional art form for over 50 years, performing stories from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and folk history across India and abroad. He has used puppetry to spread awareness about government schemes and has taught the art through workshops and exhibitions at institutions like JNU and Ambedkar University. Internationally recognized, Gunduraj has performed in countries like South Korea, USA, and France, and is the recipient of numerous awards for his contribution to folk arts.
