...He shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away...
Mozart's Requiem is a choral masterpiece whose genesis is shrouded in mystery – one that makes the piece all the more fascinating and emotionally stirring. Mozart was not in the best state of mind when he received an anonymous commission to compose a Requiem Mass. His health was deteriorating, and he believed he had been cursed to write a requiem as a ‘swansong’ for himself, because he was sure he was about to die.
The Bangalore School of Music presents the Requiem in a version for choir, four soloists, string orchestra and organ - performed by Cappella Bangalore, The Bangalore Men and the BSM Chamber Orchestra with soloists Payal John (soprano), Vinaya Vinodkumar (alto), Benson Chacko (tenor), Nivedh Jayanth (bass).
Once again, BSM has the pleasure to welcome back two of Europe's most hailed chamber musicians - Bengt Forsberg (piano/organ) and Maria Forsström (conductor) - who together with the musicians of The Bangalore School of Music and Fine Arts will present the Requiem, as well as Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 12 in A-major.
