Event Description

Jazz, a compelling genre with a rich history, is a form of music that has caught the imaginative fancy of many a musician and connoisseurs across the world. Its improvisational and experimental nature, coupled with intricate and complex melodic and rhythmic patterns, makes it a highly evolved form of music - built on the immense contribution of several notable legends. The jazz scene in India is also one that has undergone a bit of a renaissance over many years, peppered with experiments in fusing Indian music with jazz - giving rise to Indo-Jazz music - another distinct genre in itself. Banyan Tree’s World Jazz Festival was launched in 2020 with the aim of contributing to and enriching the Jazz scene in India. Presenting exemplary jazz music and world music in tandem, this festival is in collaboration with the Amersfoort Jazz Festival from The Netherlands. It has travelled to Pune, Bangalore, and Mumbai over its previous two editions, drumming up a tremendous response in each of these cities.

This year, in its 3rd edition of the World Jazz Festival grows to newer heights, travelling to five cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, and Hyderabad - in 10 days, between the 20th and 30th of April 2023. We are truly excited to bring this experience to each city, featuring an extraordinary line-up of eminent international jazz musicians from the Netherlands, USA, Thailand, Serbia, Brazil, and South Korea, to name a few. Also joining them would be a host of Indian Musicians, melding two resonant musical cultures together. The festival tour marks the occasion of International Jazz Day, celebrated annually worldwide, on the 30th of April.
