Mixologist Keegan Smith Mixes Bangalore A Mohan 88

Visit mixologist Keegan Smith at Sheraton Grand Bangalore Hotel at Brigade Gateway and ask him to make you a Mohan 88. That’s his cocktail rendition of the city. A little rum, a little chilli and a little mango juice. In conversation with Explocity, Smith talks of his mixology rules.

 

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Durban, South Africa and spent most of my childhood there before relocating to Johannesburg where I now stay.

 

Do you:
a) Drink too much?
b) Drink too little?

I believe it is never too much when it comes to drinking. However an individual should always be aware of how to drink responsibly.

 

How long have you been a mixologist?

I have been a mixologist for over 16 years now.

 

What is your favourite combination?

The Daiquiri - prepared with Bacardi Rum with Lime Juice and Sugar.

 

What are the top unwritten laws of mixology?

My favourite and trusted laws of mixology are: 1. Do not limit yourself, 2. Always do it properly and 3. Give the guest what they want

 

What is your favourite drink?

Anything that I create becomes my favourite drink. I like to savour wine these days.

 

What would be the perfect cocktail to represent Bangalore?

The Mohan 88 – prepared with Old Monk Rum, Mango Juice, Fresh Chilies, Cinnamon and Demerara Sugar.

 

How long have you been in Bangalore?  

I arrived here on 14 January 2018.
