Tāngyuán

For the occasion of Chinese New Year, there are some foods that are consumed that are considered good luck. One such dish is Chinese Rice Balls, called Tāngyuán. The round balls are associated with reunion and togetherness.

It is made with jasmine rice or any glutenous rice that is sticky. The rice is mixed with agave nectar and water. These can also be filled with fruit or cheese. It can be garnished with nori sheets or coconut shavings. Almost anything will stick to these rice balls and can be used as a garnish.
