Back in the 1988 the Outback Steakhouse, an Australian themed steakhouse in Florida brought the Blooming Onion to fame. The appetiser was invented in another steakhouse, Scotty’s in the 1970s. So what in the bloomin’ hell is a blooming onion?

Take a large onion and cut it to resemble a flower. This is then battered and deep-fried and served with a dipping sauce.
