Janthikulu or muruku is a South Indian snack that is traditionally a festival delight. Janthikulu is the Telugu version while muruku and chakuli is the Kannadiga version. This savoury snack is made with a mixture of urad dal, rice flour, salt, chilli powder and cumin seeds. The mixture is made into a dough and pressed through a contraption that squeezes out thin, long, noodle-like pieces. This is then deep fried.
This dish is made for festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Janmashtami.
