Jayashree Acharya Thinks Indian Food Is More Than Butter Chicken

Jayashree Acharya is a foodie from Mangalore who thinks Indian food is more than butter chicken and North Indian food. In conversation with Explocity, she talks about how they celebrate Ugadi in her house with Hossa Anna.

How do you celebrate Ugadi?

It’s traditionally a family affair. We make Hosa Anna. It’s coconut milk rice.

Are you a foodie?

Yes. I love trying new things.

What’s your favourite cuisine?

Indian. Variety of Indian. Not specifically North Indian.

What’s the last place that you went to in Bangalore that you really enjoyed? What did you eat there that stood out?

Permit Room. I liked the Cubbon Park Salad and the Fish Polichattu, Pepper chicken and appam and stew

What’s your favourite dish of all time and where did you eat it?

I like the food in Rassa in Malleshwaram. It’s Malnad cuisine with good Karnataka cuisine.

What is your least favourite dish?

Nothing like that. I like most things. But I think the butter chickens and butter paneers of Indian food are overrated.

If you have to recommend a place to our readers what will it be?

Farzi Cafe.
