In our bizarre foods collection there is Eri Polu. This is an Assamese dish made from the pupa of silkworms. Since the cocoon of the silkworm is boiled to make silk, why not use the remains as a snack or a side dish? The cocoon is softened by boiling and is then mixed with Assamese spices and bamboo shoots.
Assam is not alone in eating this. The Koreans eat a similar snack called Beondegi, which literally means pupa.
