In French, the word Pavé means cobblestone. And so you can pretty much figure out that a ‘Pavé’ is a square or rectangular shaped item of food.
A Pavé can be sweet like sponge cakes layered with cream frosting.
Or a savoury Pavé made with meat, poultry or fish topped with aspic jelly before serving.
There is a Brazilian dish called Pavé is made with ladyfingers (not okra, but the sponge cake variety) and tastes like tiramisu. But you can also add fruit and chocolate instead of coffee.
