Kolache is the pastry from Czech is filled with fruit, and surrounded by pastry dough. Like all most foods the dish is in the name. For instance, “kolo” in Slovanic means “round” or “wheel” so you already have an image on a round pastry by now.
The round pastry is common and often used to signify the sun, the full moon and the female (though women immensely dislike being called that.)
Think of the Kolache as a sort of round Danish Pastry. While that might be a breakfast item, the Kolache is a celebratory dish eaten at weddings.
While this is mostly a fruit filled sweet pastry, a klobasnek is the meat filled version, mainly made in Texas. Czech immigrants took the recipe to Texas and then modified it with meat.
