Description

Kanike is a collective of four artists that serves as a space for fostering creativity and community building.

Kanike, as a space, embodies several values:

A space for exercising creative needs
A platform for building a community of minds
A safe environment for coexistence
A venue for engaging in conversations
A platform for exploring new avenues of learning
A space for sharing newfound knowledge
A place for reading
A platform for responding
A space that evolves over time, gaining its own unique significance
The term "Kāṇike" translates to "gift" in Kannada. Kanike, both as a collective and a space, is dedicated to the practice of contemporary art with the goal of nurturing creativity and facilitating new avenues of learning. It serves as a collaborative environment where artists from various disciplines can freely share their work, respond to others, and engage in unrestricted collaboration.

Kāṇike was initially conceived by Indu Antony and Vivek Muthuramalingam in October 2019, driven by a strong desire for a conducive art space and the promotion of progressive thinking. They envisioned this space as a means to connect with the community through collaborative efforts and shared learning experiences. The inclusion of Krishanu Chatterjee and Aparna Nori, each with their unique backgrounds, transformed it into a collective of diverse practitioners who share a common passion for incorporating time-tested, organic, and handcrafted processes into their work.
