Located in the Karnataka Government Museum, Venkatappa Art Gallery is a place worth visiting. Not just for art lovers, the rich collection at this gallery is something that will attract everyone. Located on Kasturba Road, this gallery is just a few minutes walk away from MG Road. Next to the building is the Visweshwariah Museum which is also a place worth visiting. Spread over two floors, this art gallery boasts more than 600 paintings. Venkatappa Art Gallery along with the Archaeological Museum presents their visitors with an insight into the past and the artists who belonged to the eras gone by as well as allow visitors to admire the present works. Art-works are belonging to 2000 BC till the medieval period. The gallery has been dedicated to Venkatappa, a great painter who was born into a family of painters, on whom this gallery has been named. His works are put on display on the ground floor. Not just his, the gallery has been adorned with the work of many world-famous artists. Some of the artists whose work has been showcased here are M F Hussain, Yusuf Arakkal, N S Bendrem, Hariram, Hanumiah and others. The Old building presents a view into the world of sculptures as it houses stone sculptures that date back to the 12th century AD as well as those from the widely known Khajuraho. A section is also dedicated to showcasing various kinds of excavations. There is also an armory gallery displaying various kinds of swords, daggers, spears, gun-powder holders, and bullets which belonged to the medieval period.
