Event Description

In Guruji's Footsteps: Celebrating 100 years of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra is a special centenary celebration honouring Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra (1926–2004), the visionary who shaped and revitalised Odissi into one of India's foremost classical dance traditions. More than a commemorative event, it is a tribute to a living artistic legacy that continues to inspire generations of dancers, musicians, and audiences worldwide.

The programme brings together an exceptional line-up of artists, including Sri Ratikant Mohapatra and senior disciples of the Srjan ensemble in Bhubaneswar, who carry forward Guruji's artistic lineage, along with Guru Smt. Uma Dogra, whose artistry reflects the profound influence of Guruji's vision beyond the boundaries of Odissi. The evening will feature conversations and reflections by eminent artists, a screening of Kumar Shahani's acclaimed documentary on Guruji, a curated photo exhibition, and performances celebrating his enduring artistic contribution.

Conceptualised and curated by Smt. Devjani Sen, the event seeks to create a space where performance, memory, and dialogue come together to honour the Guru–Shishya Parampara and celebrate the continuing relevance of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra's vision. It is an invitation to rasikas, students, and lovers of the arts to experience the richness of a tradition that continues to evolve while remaining deeply rooted in its heritage.
