Event Description

Under the canopy of the trees in your neighbourhood, many stories unfold, but who are these trees–what are their names and their puzzles and wonders?

Join us for a workshop that brings together a guided nature walk of the Mahalaxmi Layout neighbourhood in Bengaluru by Kavya Chandra and a cyanotype and overdyeing workshop by Gunjan Pramod. You’ll be introduced to the different trees that make up this locale, pick up leaves, odd seedpods and other organic material to make your own prints using the cyanotype method. During the printmaking session, you will also be introduced to overdyeing processes using natural pigments.

Kavya Chandra
Facilitator

Kavya Chandra is the Founder of A Green Venture, a Bengaluru-based nature education and experiential learning initiative founded in 2016. A Certified Naturalist and Certified Nature Guide from The Naturalist School and Skill India with a background in Climate & Sustainability, Kavya brings together her knowledge of plants, trees, biodiversity, farming and sustainability to help people reconnect with the natural world. Through A Green Venture, she curates nature and heritage tree walks, outdoor learning experiences for children and families, school programmes, farm experiences, gardening workshops and nature-based camps. Her approach is rooted in the belief that nature is one of the most powerful classrooms—and that learning becomes meaningful when we can see, touch, smell, taste and experience it for ourselves. Having led hundreds of nature and tree walks and worked with children, schools, families and organisations, Kavya’s strength lies in making ecological knowledge simple, engaging, relevant and deeply experiential.

Gunjan Pramod
Facilitator

Gunjan Pramod grew up in Bangarpet, a small town in Karnataka. She is currently based in Bangalore. She completed her bachelor’s from Bengaluru School of Visual Arts, CKP and specialised in Applied Arts. She also worked at a multidisciplinary art Studio called Praxis Technē and explored photography and textiles. Gunjan also co- founded Khat, a design brand that does a variety of things like a mail club, textiles, products, workshops, etc. Her current practice involves experimenting with fabric and natural dyes, exploring plant-based pigments and working with analogue photography and printing. She combines textile, paper, embroidery, and stop-motion animation as a means of storytelling to study the spaces around her, both personal and public.
